The purpose of the class is to manage the operations and staff for the assigned area of responsibility. The class is responsible for the budget administration, staff supervision and daily operations management for the assigned area of responsibility. The class works within broad policy and organizational guidelines, independently plans and implements projects; reports progress of major activities through periodic conferences and meetings.

Example of Duties:

The City of Richmond Department of Public Works is seeking highly qualified candidates to fill the position of Superintendent of Facilities Maintenance. The incumbent is responsible for supervising assigned staff, directing workflow, and coordinating activities of staff for assigned area of responsibility.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

Preparing, submitting and administering budget for assigned area of operations

Inspecting and ensuring that equipment and facilities for assigned area of responsibility meet federal, state and local safety and operating regulations and guidelines

Administering preventative maintenance schedule of equipment and facilities for assigned area of responsibility

Securing the acquisition of equipment, parts, supplies and materials

Preparing procurement specifications and cost/benefit analysisand approving expenditures for assigned area of responsibility

Evaluating bids and recommending bid awards for contracts to contractors, vendors and service providers; monitors and approves performance of same and submits work contracts for payment for housekeeping services

Assisting in the development, implementation, and evaluation of departmental policies and procedures for housekeeping

Attending and participating in staff meetings and serving as departmental representative in meetings with vendors and contractors and meetings with other City Departments and Agencies

Preparing and submitting routine and special reports to City management

managing the custodial contract to verify the contractor is operating in compliance

Other related duties and projects as assigned

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses:

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires high school diploma, and the equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college education or specialized advanced training.

Requires six years of experience.

An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification.

May require valid state driver's license.

Physical and dexterity refers to the requirement for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Requires sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and routine keyboard operations.

Sensory ability refers to hearing, sight, touch, taste, and smell required by the job.

The job requires normal visual acuity, field of vision, hearing, and speaking.
