Job Description:

SUMMARY:

The Director provides strategic leadership, coordination, and administrative oversight to the BioMed Facilities Planning & Operations Department which is responsible for the efficient operations of our facilities, including 14 buildings (on site and off-campus leased/owned) totaling an approximate total area of 900,000 plus gross square feet. This position plays an integral role advising and interfacing with constituent departments, the administration of teaching hospital partners, and Brown medical school regarding the status and needs of BioMed facilities and space-related issues and in collaboration with the University’s Facilities Management Department to execute all phases of planning, design, and construction. Works closely with senior leadership to provide strategic direction to division projects and operations inclusive of safety, security, transportation and parking, CORE research facilities, stores operations, machine shop and customer services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree and/or combination of a Bachelor’s degree in basic science, architecture, or engineering with relevant industry experience of ten plus years. Progressively responsible management experience, including supervision of staff and midlevel managers and effective relationships with a senior executive management team, preferably in a medical school or academic medical center environment.

Strong leadership and managerial skills, outstanding interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, disciplined, and diplomatic.

Broad knowledge of research and teaching space facility and utilization requirements. Experience in laboratory planning, design and construction; a sound working knowledge of laboratory safety and security issues (including HVAC and MEP systems), building codes, construction methods and scientific research operations.

Working knowledge/ability of AutoCAD, Microsoft Office products (including Projects) and various database applications.
