The diversity of our operations has recently created an opportunity for a Facilities Technician (First Shift on Sunday-Thursday) located at our Madison Ave. corporate offices. The Facilities Technician’s primary responsibilities are to inspect, test, record readings for all building systems and to inform the Facilities Supervisor of any condition that could or is affecting the facility. The Technician will also assist housekeeping when needed.
The Facilities Technician is expected to assist in setting up tables for meetings and events. Specific areas of responsibility include Client services, general predictive and preventive maintenance, assisting with the supervision of the janitorial staff, as well as purchasing/inventory control. Must complete all assigned general tasks and requests within a timely matter. Daily monitoring of all building systems, inclusive of replacement of lights and ballast is required. The Technician is responsible for assisting in protecting and improving the value of the Owner’s/ Client’s asset. Additionally, the operation of the facility and ability to supervise activities while mitigating risk of the company.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Walking and standing for long periods of time are regularly required when performing the duties. The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms; climb; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must have the ability to work at heights, sometimes exceeding 50 feet. The employee must regularly lift up to 25 pounds and frequently move up to 100 pounds, while adhering to company safety instructions prescribed in the safety handbook and all other safety courses provided. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
– The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee frequently works in high and precarious places and may be frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally could be exposed to toxic and/or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. When working in the above listed conditions the employee will be furnished with the correct safety and (PPE) personal protection equipment and training for the conditions.
Essential Duties:
Organize and prioritize multiple tasks
Effectively solve problems in stressful situations, and consistently makes effective decisions
Assist the Facilities Supervisor in the organization and management of all administrative functions related to the engineering and Housekeeping departments including, compliance with all applicable national and local codes and regulations
Respond to and perform special requests as designated
The (MT) must respond to all building emergencies as directed in accordance with the building Life Safety Program
Must be available for after hours emergencies as needed
Process procurement as approved and directed by Facilities supervisor and /or Property Manager
Manage vendors and contractors when directed to or in the absence of the FS
Share the responsibility for all preventative maintenance, and ensure a safe work environment while maintaining a clean and organized work area
Maintain a courteous and professional work ethic, appearance, and attitude
Demonstrate the ability to understand the engineering design and operational aspects of the building systems and be able to immediately recognize system performance deficiencies and respond to operational and emergency situations
Demonstrate the proper use and care of tools and instruments and give “hands on” instruction in basic maintenance and trouble-shooting procedures
Skills & Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
: To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the education and knowledge to be able to perform each essential duty, listed below, in accordance with standards set up by Brooks Brothers for this position.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent
Minimum of three (5) years’ experience with commercial office/retail property operations and maintenance procedures
The Universal Technician608 (CFC) Certifications required
Proof of or participate in business related, (CPD) continued professional development/educational training such as MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing)(LP) loss prevention and General Facility Repairs
Ability and experience to troubleshoot all MEP systems, as well as perform HVAC maintenance
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos, with the ability to write simple correspondence, instructions
Ability to explain issues in a clear and basic format dealing with operational and mechanical systems
Ability to effectively communicate and present information in one-on-one and/or small group situations with customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals with a basic understanding of geometry and its practical uses
Continued professional development, (CPD) will be provided, and is required
NYC Fire Safety Certification is required
Training will be provided
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense, trouble shoot, apply sound decisions and to professionally carry out instructions in written and oral form
Ability to deal with problems involving several variables; multitask, while being able to rationalize problems and critical issues with minimal senior engineering and/or management input
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Experience with utilizing power tools, voltage testers/meters
Ability to troubleshoot and/or repair (MEP) mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems and lighting issues
Interpret blueprints and schematics is required
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office/Suite, Building automation systems, and (CMMS) computerized maintenance management systems
