Job Summary : Enforces rules and regulations to provide for the safety, efficiency and welfare of patrons. Monitors activities and performs services at the Recreation Center to prevent accidents and provide assistance to customers. Provides a high level of customer service with a winning attitude. Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Pearland Recreation Center in the absence of full-time managing staff. Supervisory Functions: Handles supervisory responsibilities when full-time staff are not available. They are to work within city policy and procedures, but are given abilities to make some customer decisions without supervisory approval. This position is intended to perform some decisions with little or no direction from supervisor and may be responsible for decisions relating to other staff's work. Essential Functions : Regular and timely attendance at work, as scheduled. Supervise the conduct and behavior of all members and guests that occupy the building to ensure their safety, health and wellness as well as others. Read the Facility Attendant binder, specifically the communication log in order to know all current information pertaining to the facility prior to the start of their shift. Prepare the facility for opening day, all classes, reservations, activities, programs and events as well as closing facility at the end of the night. Ensure all activities are conducted in accordance with the Parks & Recreation core values. Inspect the facility every half hour for safety concerns, maintenance issues and cleanliness. Document all necessary situations with factual information, such as incidents, injuries, building leaks, etc. and report to the proper full-time staff. Ensure all part-time staff report to work on time for shifts and fulfill job expectations while on duty. Understand all aspects of the Recreation Center including operations, procedures, programs, part-time staff requirements and emergency procedures. Act as the employee fill-in when Recreation Center part time employees do not show up for scheduled shifts and contract addition staff to cover as needed. Assist in Kidz Korner or at Kiosk to help provide support and assistance during busy times in each area. Remove any old or unapproved postings from within the RCN. Adhere to department established behavior policy. Contribute to team effort by performing other related duties as assigned. Education, Experience, and Licenses: High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum one (1) year work-related experience. Combination of experience and education may be substituted. Current certification in First Aid and CPR, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire date. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Be adaptable to facility attendance numbers from very low to very high in a short amount of time. This position will need to ready for emergencies at any point during their shift and be able to handel those emergencies with little or no direction from a supervisor. Accept payment from time to time as well as assess facility inventory such as table, chairs, fitness equipment Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and correspondence; ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's; ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software and can effectively work on a computer. Ability to effectively communicate with the general public and co-workers. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor, and the general public. Ability to safeguard sensitive or confidential information from intentional or unintentional disclosure. Demonstrate basic knowledge of the English language and be able to read and understand both written and oral communication. Knowledge of general janitorial methods and techniques. Knowledge of the organization of recreation programs is preferred. Ability to operate a personal vehicle for City of Pearland business, telephone, cell phone, sports equipment, broom, mop, computer, copier, and fax machine.
