Facilities Technician
to join their team. The
Facilities Technician
assists in event preparation and is responsible for routine maintenance of all athletic facilities. Employee must be able to recognize safety concerns and take steps to ensure corrective action occurs. Much of the work will be outdoors in all types of weather and with minimum supervision. They will be expected to work independently as well as collaboratively with the internal operations team. This position will frequently work nights and weekends for larger rental events and on Grizzly football game days.
Athletic Department employees and those University employees outside the Athletic Department with NCAA rules compliance responsibilities are subject at all times to NCAA Bylaws 10.1 and 11.1 regarding ethical conduct and the responsibility to positively contribute to a campus culture of NCAA rules compliance. Failure to conduct oneself as such will result in disciplinary or corrective action up to and including immediate discharge.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Responsible for maintenance of facilities, includes mowing and trimming of soccer, softball and track facilities.
Perform regular Inspection of facilities and report irregularities to supervisor.
Perform minor repairs and maintenance.
Ensure facilities are safe and ready for practice and competition.
Operate snow removal equipment.
Inspect all fire extinguishers monthly and initial tag.
Maintain storage areas- keep orderly and clean ensure equipment is stored properly and in working condition.
Order custodial supplies and stock custodial closets.
Responsible for ensuring facilities are ready for use on a daily basis.
Setup and assist with management of event parking (football and basketball) and tailgating (football).
Required Skills
Possess a current driver’s license.
Thorough understanding of our sports practice and competition needs and an understanding of how perform facility duties and tasks required minimum disruption.
Thorough Knowledge of University policies and procedures regarding facility maintenance.
Thorough Knowledge of University and department special event parking and tailgating policies.
Proven ability to quickly adjust focus or tasks as conditions or requests change Able to establish positive communication with co-workers, staff, faculty, students, and the general public.
Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain a safe work environment.
Works effectively in a team environment.
Able to create and maintain a work atmosphere of trust and respect with all team members.
Read and follow instructions, safety information, policies and procedures.
Demonstrated skill in customer service orientation.
Demonstrated skill in interpersonal, listening and oral communication.

Ability to provide training where appropriate.
Ability to work from heights, scaffolds and ladders.

A high level of initiative and a proven ability to work with little direct supervision.
Knowledge of basic computing and software.
Operation of various power tools including grinders, multi-tools.
Operates vehicles, UTV’s, golf carts and riding mowers as needed.
Ability to operate handheld tablets and radios.
Keep detailed and accurate records, handles inventory control.
Physical Requirements
(Qualified candidates must be able to meet minimum requirements and perform the primary functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.)
Lifting: Floor to 30 inches, up to 50 lbs. Floor to 60 inches, up to 35 lbs. Floor to overhead, up to 5 lbs. sustained, with both hands. (Lifting buffer, Floor to 30”, 70 lbs. optional.)
Carrying: Two handed front carry up to 35 lbs. for 50 feet. (Carrying buffer up stairs, 70 lbs. optional.)
Pushing and pulling forces required (during the use of cleaning equipment 25 lbs., handling janitor’s cart 5 lbs.).
Pushing and pulling forces required (handling, pushing and pulling classroom and office furniture, file cabinets, and equipment): 30 lbs. sustained at waist level (60 lbs. optional)
Static trunk forward bending and twisting from a standing, crouching or kneeling position while using tools.
Reaching with your arms in all directions, including overhead with 5 lbs. in both hands, sustained.
Working overhead from various positions (standing, squatting, and kneeling).
Balancing when climbing and working on a ladder.
Use of various hand grip circumferences and firm hand grip positions while manipulating various tools and equipment (maximum 50 lbs.).
Physical Screen will be administered prior to a final offer of employment
Minimum Required Experience
High School diploma, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of Banner and UMDW
Working knowledge of University work order system
Current CDL
Current Montana Pesticide Applicators License
